Cinema Curator (New Releases)

Salary Range: £41,360 - £46,050 (inclusive of Inner London Weighting) per annum depending on experience/performance

Cinema 
We are Barbican Cinema. Our aim is to connect audiences with a curated programme of international films; from celebrated filmmakers to ground-breaking and underheard voices. Our programme ranges from thematic seasons to new releases films, ScreenTalks, film festivals, family screenings, collaborations with our colleagues in different artistic disciplines and event cinema, such as live theatre and music broadcasts.

We strive to be inclusive in everything we do, by providing platforms for the widest possible range of filmmakers, and ensuring we are an open, welcoming and accessible venue for all our audiences.

The role
We are looking for an experienced cinema curator to join our team as maternity cover for our curation of new releases programme and manage special events with visiting talent.

This is an exciting opportunity to programme at an independent cinema committed to international cinema and gifted filmmakers, to wide access and inclusion and to diverse audiences.

You’ll programme films and events and produce parts of our new releases programme. You’ll build strong relationships with distributors and work closely together with the rest of the cinema team. You’ll manage the new release holdovers bookings at the beginning of every week, negotiating with distributors to ensure an exciting and diverse cinema programme. You’ll also manage special one-off events with visiting talent.

To be successful, you’ll need:
•    Experience of curating cinema especially in relation to the first run and performance cinema programme, including experience of working on the weekly holdovers bookings process.
•    Strong working knowledge of the UK cinema exhibition sector
•    Experience of managing cinema events with visiting talent. 
•    Highly organised, an excellent communicator 
•    Able to identify practical and creative solutions to make sure the cinema programme is delivered smoothly.
