Henry Fonda for President (12*)

Open City Documentary Festival 2025

Henry Fonda

A monumental essay-film that proposes a history of the United States through the prism of the life and career of actor Henry Fonda.

Henry Fonda was famously known for his performances in Once Upon a Time in the West and playing the morally driven juror who pits reason against the prejudices of the others in Twelve Angry Men (1957).

Austrian film historian, and former director of the Austrian Film Muse, Alexander Horwath, makes his directorial debut with this cinephile's dream film that transcends far beyond cinema itself. Fonda provides the narrative backbone for this personal essay film on the past and future of America.

Followed by a conversation between director Alexander Horwath and Erika Balsom.
