Join Dr Thomas House from the University of Manchester as he discusses whether the use of data can help to make informed predictions about the health of a population.
Can maths be used to fight disease? From ebola to scabies, Dr House does just that, building mathematical models of how they are likely to spread through a population. The science of epidemiology doesn't just help us to understand infectious diseases, but it also gives us a way of predicting how large social networks behave, with another of his studies looking at friendship in teenagers and their resultant moods as a result.
But with an ever-increasing streams of data, how does he extract meaning from the noise? And what are the limits to what data can tell us?
