London Symphony Orchestra: Half Six Fix – Prokofiev 2

with Gianandrea Noseda

Conductor Gianandrea Noseda holds a microphone and presents his pre-concert Half Six Fix talk

Kick-start your evening with a Half Six Fix concert. One piece in a 60-minute concert, introduced by the performers, with screens in the hall to bring you closer to the action.

The Programme

Schubert’s Die Zauberharfe was one of his melodramas, the text of which was sadly lost. He also wrote incidental music, including an overture for a play called ‘Rosamunde’ (also lost). Partly due to so much getting mislaid, the cheerfully bustling overture to ‘Zauberharfe’ was known as ‘Rosamunde’ for decades.

Sergei Prokofiev’s Second Symphony, the first major work he completed after leaving Russia, is a mix of whirling energy and beguiling inventiveness. The first movement is forceful with an edge-of-the-seat intensity. The second takes a gentle theme through a series of intricate variations.

Performers
Principal Guest Conductor Gianandrea Noseda brings his customary style and energy to lead the LSO players.

The concert will finish at approximately 7.30pm (timings subject to change)
