The Singing Village: CircleSong Workshop

Experiments in Utopia

An image of participants in a singing workshop.

Join this workshop and be part of a timeless space where people come together to create and receive sound.

The Singing Village invites you to reclaim the transcultural roots of folklore through vocal improvisation, creating fresh, collaborative, and spontaneous music here and now.

In this workshop, participants will create a timeless space where people come together to make and receive sound, participate in the flow of life, and share their experience of being alive. Join a gathering of people singing, dancing, and celebrating the cycles of life, reigniting in our bodies memories of a distant past and what might have helped us thrive as a species.

Voices, rhythm, movement, play, and ritual come together to strengthen community and share the roots of spontaneous collective song, where every voice is valued.

After the workshop, participants will be invited to contribute to a vocal improvisation performance in the conservatory.

Running time: 1 hour

This event is part of Experiments in Utopia, a day of programming centred around imagining liberated worlds and models of governance through sound, movement, and conversation.

About The Singing Village

The Singing Village
Guillermo Rozenthuker has been sharing his love for collaborative vocal improvisation and circlesinging around the world for the last twenty years. In 2019 he inspired Anthropos: Songs of Humanity, an a cappella improvisation ensemble reimagining ancestral musical practices. Guillermo believes in every human's innate musicality and potential to be a part of meaningful musical interactions.  He’s interested in the relationship between spontaneous singing, the wellbeing of the collective and individual body, deep listening and connection.
