Fancy Dance (15) (AD)

When a Native American woman goes missing, her sister takes things into her own hands and leaves town with her daughter, in this heart-wrenching family drama starring Lily Gladstone.

On the Seneca–Cayuga Nation Reservation, Jax (Lily Gladstone) is looking for her missing sister, and demanding answers from the police about why nothing is being done to bring her home. In the meantime, Jax takes in her niece Roki.

When social services demand Roki go live with her grandfather, Jax takes things into her own hands, and the two go off in search of Jax's sister.

Premiering at Sundance, Fancy Dance is the debut feature by Erica Tremblay, starring Lily Gladstone, Isabel DeRoy-Olson and Shea Whigham. A deeply moving film that doesn't shy away from revealing the inequality experienced by Indigenous peoples on both a personal and state level, Fancy Dance is a stunning story of family bonds and doing what's right.
