Rubbish Music

Young Barbican Nights

Kate Carr, artist, in front of a table with rubbish on it, piano in background

An exclusive Young Barbican event exploring the world of sound. As part of our International Women’s Month celebrations, join artist Kate Carr and create your very own ‘rubbish music.’

Watch Rubbish Music (Kate Carr and Iain Chambers) as they use sound to investigate the journeys, transformations and impacts of our discarded objects. Using worn out treasures, empty vessels and broken devices they examine the worlds we make and destroy through the things we leave behind.

This year Kate has been shortlisted for the Arts Foundation Award for her work in Electronic Music, adding to an already impressive career that includes compositions for BBC 3 and Late Junction. Her work has been featured in The New Yorker, Pitchfork and The Wire, among others.

Young Barbican tickets are available separately to ‘the greenhouse effect’ concert in the Conservatory at either 4pm or 7:30pm.

This event is produced by Nonclassical and Barbican.

Please note by booking a ticket to this event you agree for your music to be recorded.
