Wintery blizzards, hazy summer days, barking dogs and singing birds – you can hear them all in Vivaldi’s most popular work, performed here by the Academy of Ancient Music and violinist Rachel Podger.
The Four Seasons is the centrepiece of a programme that celebrates ground-breaking innovations of the Baroque era, a time which saw the liberation and transformation of the violin into the virtuosic solo instrument we know and love today.
Gramophone’s 2018 Artist of the Year, Rachel Podger, brings her distinctive verve and zeal to a programme that also features one of the few surviving works of Maria Grimani – an early 18th century contemporary of Scarlatti and Fux in Vienna – whose music, just like that of many unjustly neglected female composers of the past, is delightfully finding its way back to the concert stage.
This performance is subject to government guidelines.
Our Cinema and Hall have been configured for social distancing with fewer seats available. In these venues (until guidance changes) we’ve created specially-distanced seating clusters. Please only sit directly beside someone from your household or support bubble. Please avoid moving seats when you arrive so we can keep a safe distance between you and other groups.
