Cinema On Demand

a man covered in red writing protests on the street

It’s 1986 and a teenager’s life changes forever when he explores the queer and subversive world of Mexico City’s underground club scene.

While his fellow students avidly watch the World Cup, 17-year-old Carlos (Xabiani Ponce de León) discovers a more exciting world when he visits a new-wave club which opens his eyes to sex, sexual fluidity, drugs and glorious synth sounds, to the confusion of his best friend, Gera (José Antonio Toledano).

The underground scene of Mexico City is conveyed through electrifying underground club scenes – when the characters emerge into the outside city, it is to challenge its conformity through shocking live arts performance, often featuring nudity. It’s an exhilarating walk on the wild side, and the final scene is simply terrific.
