Born in Warsaw in 1926, Rykwert became one of very few writers to be awarded the RIBA’s highest honour in 2014, the Royal Gold Medal. He is the author of countless books and essays, including the widely acclaimed On Adam's House in Paradise: the Idea of the Primitive Hut in Architectural History, first published in 1971.
