Academy of Ancient Music with Carolyn Sampson

A headshot of Carolyn Sampson

‘Where words leave off, music begins’: a celebration of the mastery of English composers from Dowland to Arne and their setting of words to music.

Carolyn Sampson reveals the diversity of her artistry, opening with Dowland’s stark and spare In darkness let me dwell and ending on a rousing and roistering note as our Britannia of song. This range is matched in plaintive and playful orchestral music including a performance of Handel’s frolicsome Cuckoo and Nightingale organ concerto by Music Director Richard Egarr.
