In Conversation: Ruth Appelhof & Saskia Flower on Lee Krasner

Lee Krasner
14 Apr 2020

Author Ruth Appelhof talks to Saskia Flower about her memoir of Lee Krasner, whom she lived with in the 1970s while researching her Master's degree.

Appelhof was Executive Director Emerita of Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY. She began her career in museums as a Helena Rubenstein Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art and has since directed museums across the country. Appelhof was a visiting scholar of the American Academy in Rome in 2017. Her memoir of Krasner is inspired by the summer she stayed with the artist in East Hampton in 1974.

From Eleanor Nairne, curator of 'Lee Krasner: Living Colour' at the Barbican: ‘In loving memory of Ruth Appelhof, who was a fellow traveller with us during the research and preparations of our Lee Krasner exhibition and who sadly passed away last week. Last summer, Ruth spoke alongside Saskia Flower about her forthcoming memoir Lee and Me. Our hearts and with Ruth’s family and we greatly look forward to her book arriving in the coming months.’
