Barbican announces Yann Tiersen's premiere performance of new album: Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour
Yann Tiersen
Acclaimed musician Yann Tiersen returns to the Barbican with the premiere of his new album, Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour (Mute, April 2025) - a solo piano and electronics performance.
In an era of climate urgency, Tiersen is redefining touring and challenging capitalist norms. From solitary tours in his van to voyages on his sailboat, he has brought his music to extraordinary landscapes and intimate settings, rejecting the trappings of large-scale touring to forge genuine local connections.
Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour is divided into two distinct, interconnected parts, each with its own unique sonic characteristics. The album moves from introspective piano meditations on identity to an expansive, genre-defying blend of electronic synthesis and dynamic rhythms, reflecting a call to resist the systems that bind us. This performance in the Barbican Hall will mark the premiere of Tiersen’s powerful new album.
