The Trace of the Butterfly

A Tribute to Rim Banna

Rim Banna wearing a red dress and large jewellery. She is leaning on her elbow and looking away from the camera.

Singer-songwriter Tania Saleh, pianist Faraj Suleiman, MC Bu Kolthoum and singer Sabrine Jenhani celebrate the life and music of singer and activist Rim Banna.

After a ten-year struggle with breast cancer, Palestinian singer Rim Banna’s life was cut short in March 2018. Now, a year on from her passing, a collection of her peers and admirers celebrate her music and message playing re-orchestrated versions of her songs in new collaborations and movingly intimate solo performances.

Mixing pop, poetry and traditional Arabic sounds, Rim Banna became a voice for peace and equality, collaborating with the likes of jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft, Norwegian choir Skruk and Arabic electronica collective Checkpoint 303 in a career spanning twelve records. Tania Saleh is a Lebanese artist, singer and songwriter; Faraj Suleiman is a Palestinian pianist and composer. Joining them are Syrian MC and hip hop producer Bu Kolthoum and Tunisian singer and one half of Ÿuma, Sabrine Jenhani.

This performance will begin promptly at the advertised start time and running time will be confirmed closer to the event.
