Whatever our career, at some point we will need to communicate ideas and connect with an audience. But how can we do this with confidence, charisma, compassion, dynamism? 

The most successful person in the room isn’t the one with the best idea, but the person who can communicate their vision the most effectively. Speaking as yourself can be extremely difficult – whether because of nerves, anxiety around how we come across, or lack of knowledge of the many simple ways in which anyone can learn to be a confident communicator and public speaker. 
 
In this Creative Careers session, leading actors Ben Lloyd-Hughes and Emily Berrington will guide you with clear and effective information and exercises, to transform your approach to reaching your audience. By the end of the session you will have the knowledge and confidence to improve how you communicate your ideas.

Creative Careers is presented jointly by the Barbican Centre and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Ben Lloyd-Hughes trained as an actor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He works extensively in film, theatre and television. He also took part in the Guildhall Creative Entrepreneurs Course and created Guildhall Short Courses on Improvisation and Public Speaking & Charisma. His credits include: Malevolent (Netflix), Breathe (Imaginarium), Me Before You (MGM), War & Peace (BBC), Insurgent/Divergent(Lionsgate), Great Expectations (BBC Films), Kiss Me (Hampstead Theatre/West End), Future Conditional (Old Vic Theatre), Henry V (West End), Jumpy (West End).
 
Emily Berrington started her working life in the political arena, before training to be an actor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has appeared on stage and screen, with credits including Children’s Children and Machinal (Almeida Theatre), Dead Funny (Vaudeville Theatre), Humans (Channel 4/AMC), The Inbetweeners 2 (Film4), The Miniaturist (BBC), 24: Live Another Day (Sky), Outnumbered (BBC) The White Queen (BBC). Combining her acting career with political interests, Emily been invited to give numerous speeches about political and social issues, both to camera and at conferences/political events. She also took part in the Guildhall Creative Entrepreneurs Course.
