Hauschka

Volker Bertelmann, aka Hauschka, plays an uncharacteristically stripped back set of piano compositions from his new record A Different Forest.

Hauschka has become synonymous with the way in which he disembowels the piano, using every part of the instrument to create sounds and effects one might not usually associate with the instrument. But for this performance, and his new record, he has gone back to basics, focussing on the purity of the piano. Taking inspiration from nature for these new works, in particular walks through the forest, the music echoes these themes with songs that are crisp, but slowly building, unpolluted, but emotionally charged.

Ever prolific, Hauschka has worked on a vast array of projects across the course of the last decade, spanning solo albums, classical ensemble works and film scores amongst many more.
