Sofa Slam

The Sofa Slam is Barking & Dagenham's first and only poetry slam! Hosted at The White House, the night follows slam poetry tradition, bringing poetry to the people, into the home. Join the Sofa Slammers at the Broadway Theatre on 30th June for poetry performances, rallying calls and your chance to exercise or discover your spoken word skills.

A Change is Gonna Come
5–6.15pm
The beauty and power of spoken word poetry runs head first into the electrifying energy of hip-hop dance as the Barbican Young Poets collaborate with dance company Boy Blue. Barbican Young Poets, past and present, come together for an electrifying collaboration with hip-hop dancers from Boy Blue to share their personal experiences of the nation in which they find themselves living through spoken word and dance.

Poetry workshop with Jack Miguel

Jack Miguel is a poet and rapper from North London, whose work also includes sound design, sculpture and moving image. He was the first poet and rapper to attend Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Join him for an intimate workshop where you can develop your spoken word skills

Come and make your own pre-show drink with Company Drinks. We'll help you mix up your own seasonal ‘Mocktail’, made from Barking and Dagenham-picked ingredients. Maybe your flavour combination will be our next best-selling soda?

As part of the 2018 season The Art of Change. Subject to Change aims to reflect the shifting landscapes of the present through the timeless art of poetry. Each month a Barbican Young Poet picks a topical subject and writes a poem that provides their own personal reflection on the issue.We'll be screening the impactful poems that have been created since the project began.
