Violin fireworks and two sumptuous musical stories mingle in this concert, which showcases the talents of two leading classical artists.
Alina Ibragimova may be among the younger generation of classical stars, but she already has a long history with the LSO, growing familiar with the faces of the Orchestra as a child while her father was Principal Double Bass. ‘I grew up with them,’ she says. ‘Playing with the LSO was always something I dreamt of when I was young.’
This enduring partnership plays out on the Barbican stage in this concert. Ibragimova takes on the symphonic drama and infectious dance rhythms of Brahms’ Concerto, while Lionel Bringuier pairs two vivid musical stories of love and ancient myths.
Change of conductor
On the advice of his doctor, Robin Ticciati has regrettably announced that he must withdraw from a number of forthcoming engagements in order to fully recover from a persistent back injury. He is therefore now unavailable to conduct his concerts with the LSO in London and on tour in February 2018.
We are very grateful to Lionel Bringuier who will now conduct the Orchestra and soloist Alina Ibragimova for these concerts. There will also be a slightly revised programme, which will no longer feature the opening Fauré Prelude and with Dutilleux’s Métaboles replacing Franck’s Psyche Suite in the second half.

Mobility
Spaces for wheelchair users in row U at the rear of the stalls (up to sixteen, depth of row 180cm) and the back row of the circle (four), both with fold-down companion seats. Some seats in row S of the stalls for people with very limited mobility.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs may be taken into the concert hall where there are a limited number of suitable seats in row G of the stalls. If you prefer, you may leave your dog with a member of the cloakroom staff during the performance.
Hearing facility
There is an induction loop in the concert hall. You can use this by adjusting your hearing aid to the ‘T’ setting.
