Simian Mobile Disco present Murmurations

with the Deep Throat Choir

The members of Simian Mobile Disco

Witness a dialogue between human and machine as electronic duo Simian Mobile Disco and singing collective Deep Throat Choir perform from their forthcoming collaborative album Murmurations.

Since their acclaimed 2007 debut Attack Decay Sustain Release, Simian Mobile Disco – producer duo James Ford and Jas Shaw – have explored almost every avenue of modern techno, from experimental excursions to dancefloor bangers. For this performance, they return to song-based structures, melding their mastery of their machinery with uproarious vocals of Hackney’s all-female Deep Throat Choir. Something that’s both organic and synthetic. Featuring Live Fluid Art by Chris Parks and Saam Farahmand – microscopic fluid paintings, transmitted to the Barbican from a Central London laboratory with support from The Mill.

Support comes from Berlin-based Kuwaiti conceptual artist and composer Fatima Al Qadiri's new project, entitled Ja7eem, meaning 'hell-fire' in Arabic. Fatima’s work touches upon themes of socio-cultural identity, war and memory: this  live AV set, with visuals by Emmanuel Baird, explores the theme of hell-fire using archive footage of oil fires during the First Gulf War.

Produced by the Barbican in association with Convergence Festival

Please note that this performance contains strobe lighting throughout
