Relaxed Screening: The Post (12A)

Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in The Post

Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep star in this thrilling dramatization of the Washington Post’s battle with the US Government, directed by Steven Spielberg.

Set in 1971, it tells the story of how Post editor Ben Bradee (Hanks) and publisher Katharine Graham (Streep) fought the law, the government — and in Graham’s case, open sexism — to publish key parts of the Pentagon Papers, which exposed the truth about US involvement in the Vietnam War.

Spielberg’s drama is a timely and gripping exploration of press freedom, political accountability and the cost of finding out the truth, with a fantastic supporting cast including Bob Odenkirk, Matthew Rhys, Sarah Paulson, Bradley Whitford and Alison Brie

The cinema environment is tailored to the needs of the audience by having the lights dimmed, though not off, and the volume levels a little lower than usual. Attendees are free to sit in whichever seat they like and can enter and exit the room at any time, with easy access for any wheelchair users. Staff are trained and ready to assist with any help the audience may need during these trips to the cinema at Barbican.
