Benjamin Grosvenor in recital

Benjamin Grosvenor black and white piano

The masterly young British pianist takes Schumann as his starting point for a musical journey through three very different conceptions of virtuosity.

Benjamin Grosvenor’s typically imaginative solo recitals go far beyond the notes on the page. Reviewing a previous Barbican recital, the Daily Telegraph called him ‘a genuine talent of the old school’.

But his combination of youthful brilliance with an ever-deepening musical intelligence makes his each successive appearance a revelation. In pairing Janáček and Prokofiev with the profoundly Romantic – but strikingly different – imaginative visions of Schumann and Liszt, he clearly has something new to say. Finding out what is one of 21st-century pianism’s most consistently rewarding pleasures.

The performance is expected to finish around 9.30pm, including a 20 minute interval.
