Moonee (Brooklynn Prince), a precocious and profanity-spouting six year-old, lives with her hell raiser mother Halley (Bria Vinaite) at the Magic Inn motel. Moonee and her ragtag group of friends from in and around the motel are too young and too busy romping around the grounds and Bobby (Willem Dafoe) the manager's office to recognise the struggles the adults around them are facing. Halley can barely scrape together the $38 a nights she needs to keep a roof over their heads. Barely an adult herself, the mother and daughter careen through life on the outskirts of Orlando, Florida, a steady prelude to the inevitable explosion of a life lived so close to the edge.
With incredible performances from both Prince and Vinaite, The Florida Project abounds in a vibrant and volatile energy that gives a breathtaking vision of the fighting spirit of the American underclass.
