Sister Midnight (15)

An Indian woman stares into the camera, a bandage on her nose, holding her hair up with one hand

An arranged marriage traps this oddball couple in domestic hell, solved only through delving into the darkness of dreams, in Karan Kandhari's debut feature comedy.

This dark-comedy throws together Uma (Radhika Apte) and Gopal (Ashok Pathak) in a thin-walled Mumbai shack. Awkward and alone-together, unpredictable Uma does her best to cope with the heat, her total lack of domestic skills, nosy neighbours and bumbling spouse.

In her debut feature, director Karan Kandhari's brings together dark physical comedy, feminist undertones and amazing soundtrack. Nominated for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer and four British International Film Awards, Kandhari has stated her claim as one to watch.

Hindi language with English subtitles.
