Creative Collaboration
The Creative Collaboration department is at the heart of the Barbican’s engagement with its audiences and communities, breaking down traditional arts boundaries and contributing to a dynamic, diverse artistic programme.
Creative Collaboration aims to be a catalyst for the Barbican’s artistic vision, working across the centre with a multi-artform approach using all venues and spaces. The department champions interdisciplinary work that connects new audiences to the Barbican, engaging with creatives, participants and users that reflect the rich diversity of London.
The role
The Barbican is looking for an experienced Technical Production Manager to support the successful delivery of diverse and dynamic performance and participation programmes across music, theatre, cinema and visual arts.
The Technical Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the practical delivery of a programme of events and projects developed by the Creative Collaboration team. Acting as the technical and production co-lead, they play a central role for the department, supporting delivery and advising on the logistical, operational and financial feasibility of all its planned projects. The Technical Production Manager will develop delivery models in response to the unique requirements and needs of individual projects, and to the overall programme, to a high professional standard.
Working closely with technical managers, technicians, producers, curators and programmers from across the Barbican artform teams, the role will also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including artists, creative practitioners and community partners whose work we seek to platform and share with a wider public.
Essential requirements
Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of high-quality, live events delivery.
- Experience working across arts forms, or specialising in one, on the technical and staging requirements of events.
- Previous experience of managing project logistics for events, including equipment maintenance and usage; managing risk assessments for all stages of projects; assisting with planning and resource allocation including staffing.
- Experience and knowledge of project management systems.
- Experience of long-term event planning for multiple concurrent projects and programmes.
- Experience administrating and updating event notes for projects to include all necessary internal operational requirements.
- Experience managing event budgets in conjunction senior managers and producers, including ability to prepare detailed costings of planned events, obtaining estimates for additional services required internal and external technical support;
- Experience of managing contractors or freelancers to deliver specialist production services, preparing and overseeing contract arrangements.
- Being practical and proactive, with a flexible approach, and able to work in a collaborative way as part of a team.
- A keen interest in working in the arts, culture and education.
