Matilda Lloyd

ECHO Rising Stars at 30: Chamber Music Weekender

Matilda Lloyd in a green dress, holding her trumpet. She is stood within the walls of an old stone castle.

British trumpeter Matilda Lloyd presents a thrilling programme of music that tells a story.

Through the landscape of 20th century French music, we discover two of the most important works written for trumpet and piano: Honegger’s heroic Intrada and Enescu’s impressionistic Légende, composed for a trumpet competition at the Paris Conservatoire. We also delve into the romance of French music, exploring the emotional range of the trumpet through chansons by Pauline Viardot and Gabriel Fauré. Plus, we hear a new work by Dani Howard.

'An explosive young talent' (AllMusic), Matilda Lloyd first came to attention as winner of the BBC Young Musician Brass Final in 2014, and wowed audiences in her first Proms appearance two years later. Her debut album for Chandos gained a 5 star review and Recording of the Month in BBC Music magazine in 2023.
