Sào Soulez Larivière

ECHO Rising Stars at 30: Chamber Music Weekender

Sao Soulez Lariviere waking down a concrete corridor holding his viola by his side

Embark on a journey from the Baroque to the present day with Sào Soulez Larivière, as he brings electronics on board to explore a whole new side to the viola.

Sào Soulez Larivière invokes the sombre atmosphere of Stravinsky's Élégie and the Hungarian folk-inspired sounds of Ligeti's Sonata for solo viola, before turning to something totally fresh from Julia Wolfe. Bach's Partita No 2, arranged for viola, brings the concert to a close – it's final movement one of the greatest works ever written for solo violin.

ECHO Rising Star for the 2024/25 season, Sào Soulez Larivière was also named as the 2023 Young Artist of the Year by the International Classical Music Awards. An advocate for expanding the horizons of the viola repertoire, he enjoys arranging works for his instrument as well as promoting contemporary music, collaborating with renowned composers such as Fazil Say, Olli Mustonen and Julia Wolfe.
