The Boy and the World (PG*)

Family Film Week

Two people stand atop a wrecked car in a landscape looking out on a city.

A rare delight on the big screen – we’re hosting a special 10th Anniversary screening of the Oscar nominated animation from director Alê Abreu.

Without dialogue, we follow a young boy’s journey from his home in the countryside to strange lands. Visually ravishing animation sweeps the audience along as the boy searches for his father, but also finds his way to cotton fields, to robotic factories, to city slums, to futuristic worlds in the sky. Touching on themes of environmentalism, industrialisation, political upheavals and family bonds – this is an utterly unique adventure.

Brazil 2014 Dir Alê Abreu 80min (No dialogue – the language heard in the film is Portuguese spoken backwards)

Age recommendation 7+

Please note: This screening is for families to attend as a group. Adults can only enter auditorium if they are bringing a child. Children can only attend if accompanied by an adult.

11:30am Free Workshop

11:30am – 14:00pm

Working with artist Fatima Rodriguez, this workshop is designed for families to engage in a creative, hands-on activity exploring the themes of the animated film The Imaginary and Boy and the World.

Families and Children will craft their very own magical wands using natural and recycled materials. The wands will represent not only the magic seen in the films but also symbolize the power of friendship and collaboration, as participants can 'enchant' their wands with positive qualities such as kindness, loyalty and teamwork.
