Barbican announces Maria Schneider and Oslo Jazz Ensemble
GRAMMY Award-winning jazz composer and bandleader Maria Schneider presents music from her critically acclaimed 2020 album Data Lords, alongside Oslo Jazz Ensemble.
Schneider, who counts David Bowie among her collaborators, has for decades been making evocative, genre-defying music that has won her commissions from the likes of Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Her album Data Lords is inspired by conflicting relationships between the digital and the natural worlds and earned her the No.1 spot in the 2020 NPR Music Jazz Critics Poll, as well as a place in the 2020 best albums lists in Rolling Stone, Slate, Paste, Pop Matters, and The Guardian.
At the Barbican in March 2025, Schneider will be performing with the 19-piece Oslo Jazz Ensemble, comprising some of Norway’s best jazz musicians, with whom she has worked closely for the last ten years and who have become deeply intuitive interpreters of her work.
