The Killing of a Sacred Deer (15)

A still from Yorgos Lanthimos's The Killing of a Sacred Deer

With his second English language feature, director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster) brings us another deadpan comedy with a pitch-dark premise and shocking ending.

Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) has a successful life: a cardiothoracic surgeon, married to a successful and beautiful ophthalmologist, Anna (Nicole Kidman) and two nice children (Raffey Cassidy and Sunny Suljic).

Yet, this seemingly calm life sits alongside a strange friendship with a teenage boy, Martin (Barry Keoghan), whose father has recently passed away. When Martin’s true motivation is revealed, things take a turn for the deeply sinister.

With incredible performances from the entire cast, including a fantastic cameo from Alicia Silverstone, Lanthimos' drama explores morality and responsibility with a keen sense of the absurd and shocking humour.
