Reflections on the observed and the observer, inspired by performance, a series of collage and paintings steeped in animism, sci-fi, surrealism, expressionism, and pop art. Free Exhibition.
Artist and musician Paul May has toured the world as a drummer and has studied the faces in many an audience, large and very small, observing their expressions of among other things, love, perplexity, contempt, fascination, indifference, questioning and curiosity. These observers, also observed, imbue these paintings, unguarded and in an abstract mirror. This collection of works utilizes acrylics, decorating paints, crayons, and collage, presented on largely recycled canvas and frames.
