Based on six tragedies by Greek dramatist Euripides and one by Aeschylus, Age of Rage takes the Trojan War and the Atreides family as its starting point. A history of anger and violence is passed on from generation to generation, like a curse. This production combines music, performance and dance from a large ensemble cast to uncover the inevitability and hopelessness of a circle of violence.
Age of Rage follows earlier acclaimed large-scale productions from the world-renowned Internationaal Theater Amsterdam directed by Ivo van Hove including Roman Tragedies and Kings of War. With spectacular set design by Jan Versweyveld, choreography from Wim Vandekeybus and music from the contemporary music collective BL!NDMAN [drums].
Presented by the Barbican. Co-produced by Holland Festival; Bl!ndman; La Villette, Paris; Barbican, London. Private producers Helga Lasschuijt and Dirk Raes, Gabriella de Rooij and Hendrik Jan ten Have, Marius de Vos and Gary Carter, Anna Wouters and Esther Kwaks.
