Joe Harriott, Harry Beckett, Shake Keane and the Caribbean Jazz Influence

Trumpet player Harry Beckett

A live-streamed symposium and concert celebrating the influence of Caribbean jazz musicians on the British jazz scene past, present and future.

The post-Second World War wave of immigration from the Caribbean to Britain brought with it a creative group of musicians who would make an essential contribution to jazz in Britain.

In this concert Guildhall Big Band, led by Scott Stroman with special guests, explores the legacies of Jamaican-born alto saxophonist Joe Harriott, St Vincent-born trumpeter Shake Keane and Barbadian trumpeter Harry Beckett.

The performance will be preceded by a symposium chaired by University of Liverpool professor Catherine Tackley and featuring Williamson, Crosby, Garrick and journalist, broadcaster and author Kevin Le Gendre discussing the influence of Caribbean jazz musicians on the British jazz scene past, present and future.

This performance is presented by the Guildhall Jazz department and Guildhall African Caribbean Society.
