For all the kids (and parents) missing Family Film Club, here are some film recommendations to keep the little'uns entertained. Cinema curator Susie Evans picks some of her favourite films for children under 5…
 

Lost and Found (U) on Amazon

With stunning animation, a score by superstar composer Max Richter, and a story based on Oliver Jeffers' smash hit picture book, this BAFTA winning featurette is an unmissable tale of true friendship for kids (oh, and it's narrated by Jim Broadbent!) Watch.    

 

Lotte Reiniger's Fairy Tale Films (U) on BFI Player

Lotte Reiniger (the original scissorhand) animated a selection of beautiful silhouette fairy tales which, at only around 10 minutes each, are a lovely length for little film lovers. Watch.   

 

My Neighbour Totoro (U) on Netflix

Studio Ghibli's 1988 charmer is a super sweet tale of family, friendship and a group of magical creatures known as Totoros – a joyful experience for ages 1 to 100! Watch the trailer.   

 

The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories (U) on Amazon

A bookshelf staple is given an animation make over (an animake-over?). Narrated by poet Roger McGough, the collection includes a number of other gentle Eric Carle adaptions including The Very Quiet Cricket and The Mixed-Up Chameleon. Watch.   

 

Where the Wild things Are and other Maurice Sendak Stories (U)

An off-the-beaten-track selection of titles adapted from Sendak's picture books. With a soundtrack by the legendary Carole King, this is a simply animated gem that kids, parents and grandparents can snuggle up to. Watch.
