Exhibition Tour: Jamie Hakim

Masculinities: Liberation through Photography

A black and white photograph of a well dressed, wealthy man looking despondent

A guided tour of Masculinities: Liberation through Photography with UEA lecturer Jamie Hakim.

For this gallery tour, Jamie Hakim, will explore the relationship between masculinity, photography and space in order to reflect on the ways photographs of the male body can produce and legitimise queer desire. Often seen as only background or context, this talk will consider the critical role that the space surrounding the male body plays in endowing it with desirability, from the spaces contained within the photographic frame (the city street, the frat house) to the spaces that contain the photograph (a magazine, the gallery, the internet).

Jamie Hakim is a lecturer in media studies at the University of East Anglia. His book Work That Body: Male Bodies in Digital Culture (Rowman & Littlefield International) was published in 2019.

Your ticket also includes same-day entry to the exhibition.
