London Symphony Orchestra/Noseda

Orff's Carmina Burana

Pianist Alice Sara Ott

Life, lust, and roasted swans: experience Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, in a roof-raising seasonal performance with Gianandrea Noseda and the full London Symphony Chorus.

The medieval monks who wrote the words to Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana certainly knew how to enjoy themselves, and with Gianandrea Noseda, an expanded LSO and the massed voices of the LSO Chorus, Orff’s outrageous (and very secular) cantata is all-but guaranteed to bring the house down.

There’s absolutely nothing sacred about this choral blockbuster to end all choral blockbusters: just hummable melodies, unstoppable energy, bad behaviour and the lingering tang of Old Spice. But before the wheel of fate starts turning, the brilliant Alice Sara Ott whirls her way through Saint-Saëns’ most famous piano concerto – the one that’s said to begin in a church and end in a tavern.
