Stravinsky’s symphonic workout meets Scriabin’s triumphant hymn to the glory of mankind in a concert of Russian artists exploring Russian sounds.

Any performance of Alexander Scriabin’s Poem of Ecstasy is enough to win the composer legions of new fans. Scriabin’s signature work is a triumphant hymn to the glory of mankind – a rhapsody on human affirmation delivered by an orchestra seasoned with bells, organ and blazing brass.

Conductor Alexander Vedernikov contextualizes this calorific Russian masterpiece with Stravinsky’s slim and elegant Symphony in C and a rare treat: a piano concerto in the form of a free-spirited fantasy, written by a Russian composer here in London. To play Medtner’s concerto we welcome the embodiment of the Russian virtuoso tradition, Nikolai Lugansky.
