We present an unparalleled variety of performing and visual arts, as well as hosting extensive commercial activity. We're looking for a highly motivated and talented individual to join the Retail team as an Assistant Retail Operations Manager.

Our shops offer the best design-led gifts, inspired by our artistic programme and dynamic architecture. We invest in the designers of today and tomorrow, creating bespoke products and new ranges. We showcase the talents of UK manufacturing, design and publishing.

Through our activities we hope to help build young businesses, nurture and mentor graduate design talent and create a platform for enterprise and cultural entrepreneurialism. We buy British where possible and collaborate with environmentally and socially responsible companies. Our two shops – The Art Gallery Shop on Level 3 and The Barbican Shop on Level G – regularly refresh their ranges and purchases made at the shops directly support our arts and learning activities.

In this role, you'll provide support to the Retail team in achieving sales targets by effectively managing the day to day, operational aspects of our retail spaces, ensuring an excellent visitor experience and providing excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate will need to have relevant retail experience at a supervisory or assistant manager level, particularly within a busy and sometimes pressured environment. You'll be skilled at communicating with a variety of people at all levels and be solution focused.  As someone who is always able to provide a high level of customer service, you'll also be coaching others in the team to achieve this standard.  We're looking for a team player who has the ability to work on their own initiative and are able to make day to day operational decisions.

The role requires experience of visual merchandising and working with EPoS, preferably in a retail environment.  You'll have good IT skills, ideally with experience of using Microsoft Office. You'll be self-motivated and flexible in your availability and approach to work.
