The Art of the Countertenor: Iestyn Davies

Academy of Ancient Music

The wondrous Iestyn Davies gazing into the middle distance

Leading countertenor Iestyn Davies whisks us off on an inspiring journey through some of the best and most beloved works for the countertenor voice.

Davies’s impeccable technique and signature, refined tone at once transfixes and moves, delivering an evening of interpretive revelation and sumptuous beauty. Featured in the programme are two Vivaldi cantatas (Nisi Dominus, RV 608 and ‘Cessate, omai cessate’, RV 684), Handel’s ‘Ombra mai fu’ and Purcell’s ‘Strike the Viol’, heard alongside lesser-known gems.

Richard Egarr directs from the keyboard, leading the Academy of Ancient Music with characteristic vigour and panache. Grammy Award-winning Davies’s uncommon communicative powers take centre stage with bountiful musical delights in store.

The performance will finish at approximately 9:30pm. It includes a 20 minute interval.
