La Cocina (15)

Parent & Baby Screening

Alonso Ruizpalacios' latest feature where orders pile up and tensions rise in the busy kitchen of a NYC restaurant.

La Cocina, provides a look at the innards of a New York City restaurant from the perspectives of its immigrant workers, featuring an incredible international cast, beautiful cinematography and a well-suited musical score.

Adapted from Arnold Wesker’s 1957 play, this story takes place in a restaurant called The Grill, somewhere in the centre of Manhattan. The film follows the restaurant's staff: Estela, a new hire who does not speak a word of English, shadows Pedro, an experienced chef and illegal immigrant. American waitress Julia is pregnant with Pedro's baby.

When money goes missing from one of the cash registers, and the entire staff, composed mostly of immigrants, comes under suspicion.

Temperatures keep rising in this already scorching kitchen.
