London Symphony Orchestra/Maxim Pascal

LSO Futures, with Seong-Jin Cho

Maxime Pascal conducting the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican

An evening celebrating music at the forefront of composition, as we hear three world premieres, alongside Pierre Boulez’s magnetic memoriam to fellow composer Bruno Maderna.

After two years of close collaboration with the LSO, bold new works by Omri Kochavi and Sasha Scott –developed through the LSO Helen Hamlyn Panufnik Composers’ Scheme – are brought to life. Donghoon Shin brings his dynamic, shimmering style of composition to his debut Piano Concerto, written especially for the extraordinary Seong-Jin Cho.

Boulez’s 1975 Rituel transforms the stage into a sonic landscape. Players are positioned in distinct groups to create complex textures and effects, for one of his most accessible and arresting works.

One of today’s most versatile and dynamic pianists, Seong-Jin Cho joins the LSO for this concert of musical riches, which forms part of his Artist Portrait series. Conductor Maxime Pascal returns for his second LSO Futures concert, following a critically acclaimed debut in 2025.

The concert will finish at approximately 8.50pm, including a 20-minute interval (timings subject to change).

Produced by the London Symphony Orchestra.

The Helen Hamlyn Panufnik Composers’ Scheme is generously supported by Lady Hamlyn and The Helen Hamlyn Trust.
