London Schools Symphony Orchestra

Image of an orchestra performing with multiple people stood in line playing the flute

London’s youth orchestra returns to the Barbican following its summer tour of Yorkshire.

Moving from places physical to places imagined, Sibelius’s powerful homage to his homeland Finlandia precedes Lyadov’s impressionist fairytale symphonic poem The Enchanted Lake, before we visit Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe’s Kakadu, a colourful and vivid homage to an Australian national park.

The centre piece, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 has left many young musicians with a profound and moving experience as performers.

The concert will finish at approximately 9.30pm, including a 20-minute interval (timings subject to change).
