Lil.Miss.Lady

HighRise Entertainment

A person in a fur coat stands on stage as people dance in the background in a dark room lit by haze.

Part rave, part drama, HighRise return with an immersive history of Grime, told through the eyes of a trailblazing female MC.

Starring Lady Lykez, Lil.Miss.Lady takes you on a journey through the history of Black-British, Bass-music culture from the early stages of Jungle, through UK Garage, Sub-low, Funky House, Dubstep and Grime. Inspired by a series of interviews with influential women in the Grime scene (Lady Stush, Lioness, Queenie, Baby Blue), the show explores what it takes for a female MC to break into a heavily male-dominated industry.

Written and directed by Dominic Garfield, it features original music by Lady Lykez mixed live by DJ Kaylee Kay and guests.

The HighRise collective use music, theatre and first-hand testimonies to represent unheard voices in inner-city Britain. Led by Artistic Director Dominic Garfield, the company won the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award in 2022 with The UK Drill Project.

Running time: 90 minutes, no interval

Age guidance: 14+

This production contains haze, loud music, smoke effects and strobe lighting. There is strong language and references to violence.
