Quatuor Agate

A testament to his distinctive voice, Ligeti's Métamorphoses Nocturnes shifts through a kaleidoscope of moods – lyrical, frenetic, and haunting. Ravel's String Quartet was arguably the composer's first major success. For all its classical structure, the piece also wholeheartedly embraces modernism. Though controversial to some at the time of its premiere, Debussy urged Ravel, 'In the name of the gods of music, and in mine, do not change a single note of what you have written.'

Formed in 2016, the Quatuor Agate derives its name from one of the most beautiful chamber music pieces, Johannes Brahms’s Second Sextet, dedicated to his second love, Agathe von Siebold. The group are passionate about bringing chamber music to diverse audiences, and in 2021 won the prestigious auditions of the Young Classical Artists Trust in London.
