Rakesh Chaurasia + Shahid Parvez & Shakir Khan

Darbar Festival

Collage of Rakesh Chaurasia and Shahid Parvez on stage

A once-in-a-lifetime double bill featuring musical royalty from India's most illustrious gharanas

The evening begins with the transcendent bansuri of Chaurasia, heir to the legendary Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. His breath control turns bamboo into an instrument of extraordinary emotion. Experience the cascading waterfalls of his fast taans, the delicate nuance of his meend, and the soulful depth of his alaap as he explores ancient ragas with reverence and innovation. His bansuri pairs perfectly with Samsi's tabla, a disciple of Ustad Alla Rakha and a renowned percussion virtuoso.

In the second half, Parvez shares the stage with his son, Khan, in a sitar jugalbandi. Parvez’s gayaki ang (vocal style) engages with Khan, carrying forward the Etawah Gharana’s seven-generation legacy. Their interwoven strings create moments of beauty, supported by Talwalkar’s dynamic tabla playing.
