A glittering constellation of performers join Evgeny Kissin for an immersive dive into three works that together span Shostakovich’s creative evolution – the last a soul-searing farewell.
Four Verses of Captain Lebyadkin is Shostakovich's final vocal work and the last premiere of his work he ever attended; the mournful, melodic lines of Piano Trio No 2 were played at the composer's own public funeral service; and the Viola Sonata is Shostakovich’s last completed work, the final pages hovering on the cusp of eternity.
Anchored by the irrepressible Evgeny Kissin, four renowned performers bring unique insights into Shostakovich’s complex musical psyche: celebrated bass singer, Alexander Roslavets joins for Four Verses of Captain Lebyadkin; the legendary Gidon Kremer, a violinist who turns ‘sparkle into pure magic’ (The Los Angeles Times) joins regular cellist of Kissin's piano trio, Geidrė Dirvanauskaitė for Piano Trio No 2; and Maxim Rysanov, ‘a prince among viola players’ (Gramophone) rounds out this star-studded recital.

Mobility
Spaces for wheelchair users in row U at the rear of the stalls (up to sixteen, depth of row 180cm) and the back row of the circle (four), both with fold-down companion seats. Some seats in row S of the stalls for people with very limited mobility.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs may be taken into the concert hall where there are a limited number of suitable seats in row G of the stalls. If you prefer, you may leave your dog with a member of the cloakroom staff during the performance.
Hearing facility
There is an induction loop in the concert hall. You can use this by adjusting your hearing aid to the ‘T’ setting.
