Learn more about acting, devising, ensemble work and multi-disciplinary theatre techniques in this free theatre maker masterclass led by Wise Children.
This day-long practical workshop introduces participants to Wise Children's theatre making process and methods. Through playing games, learning choreography and devising, attendees will experience first-hand how the company builds an ensemble and creates critically acclaimed shows.
The session is aimed at people aged 18+ who are at the start of their theatre making career.
Wise Children is a theatre company created and led by multi-award-winning director Emma Rice. They make ground-breaking work with exceptional artists and tour it across the UK and internationally.
The Royal Shakespeare Company and Wise Children's The Buddha of Suburbia plays in our theatre until Sat 16 Nov.
This event is free, but ticketed.
Running time: from 10:30am–5pm, with lunch and tea breaks
Age guidance: 18+

It takes place in our rehearsal room. Participants will be taken directly from The Pit to this space.
What should I bring?
To take part in this workshop, please wear comfortable clothes to move in and a willingness to have fun! If you play an instrument, feel free to bring it along if you're happy to use it in the session.
To make the most out of the day, Wise Children encourage participants to attend The Buddha of Suburbia, either before or after the workshop.

The Pit
Location
The Pit is located on Level -2 within the main Barbican building and can be accessed via the stairs or lifts on Level G, next to the doors to the Lakeside Terrace.

Access
The Pit floor (level minus 2) can be reached via the main lifts – please note that only two of the four lifts go to this floor. Access Step-free access from the Pit floor foyer to any front-row seat. All other seats lead off stepped aisles.
Mobility
Spaces for two wheelchair users in the front row (at stage level), with companion seats. Front row seats are also suitable for people with limited mobility.
Assistance dogs
Because space in the auditorium is limited, we recommend that you leave your dog to be cared for by a member of the foyer staff during the performance.
Amplified sound
Amplified sound is provided through a headset for people with impaired hearing. Audio-described performances use a wireless network to relay through a headset a live description of the scenery, costumes, facial expressions and action. Headsets are available. You can obtain one 30 minutes before the performance from the programme desk inside the Pit Theatre entrance.
