The Holdovers (15) (AD)

The people sit round a kitchen table having a Christmas dinner.

An unpopular teacher, a rebellious student and a grieving cook hunker down whilst left behind at school together over the Christmas break in this 1970s feel-good comedy.

From director Alexander Payne, The Holdovers follows a grumbling educator (Paul Giamatti) at a prestigious American school who is forced to stay on campus during the Christmas holidays to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go.

An unlikely gang forms between those left behind: the teacher, the smart troublemaker (newcomer Dominic Sessa) and the school’s head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam (played wonderfully by Da’Vine Joy Randolph).
