Anora (18) (AD)

Parent and Baby Screening

Anora, a high-priced Brooklyn stripper, becomes involved in a troubled romance with the son of a Russian oligarch, from Cannes favourite Sean Baker.

Ever-known for digging into the underbelly of the not-so-glamorous side of Hollywood and the US more widely, DIY filmmaker Sean Baker presents his fourth feature.

Anora Mikheevand (Mikey Madison) is a young stripper living in Brooklyn Beach, looking for a new path in life. Things change big time when she enters into a beleaguered marriage to the son of a Russian oligarch (Mark Eydelshteyn).

Written, directed and edited by Baker, the film won the Palme d'Or win at Cannes and has gone on to receive critical raves at several other international festivals. Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) gives a spectacular, career-best performance in a film in English, Russian and Armenian.

Known for his ability to get award-winning performances out of first-timers and non-actors alike, Baker rose to fame with Tangerine and The Florida Project.
