Tales of ancient spirits and savage dreams from Sibelius and Stravinsky, alongside the fluid, lyrical melodies of Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto.
Prokofiev wrote that his Second Violin Concerto was the product of his ‘nomadic concert-tour existence’, which took him from Paris to Baku, Madrid to Morocco. Despite this, its melodies carry more than a hint of the composer’s homeland of Russia, to which he was about to return, along with tinges of Spain in the finale’s clicking castanets.
The riotous Parisian premiere of The Rite of Spring in 1913 has gone down in legend as Stravinsky pushed musical boundaries and changed the classical world forever. Today the piece sounds as daring, thrilling and modern as it did then.
Klaus Mäkelä’s love of Stravinsky’s ballet will shine through in every detail of The Rite of Spring, as he makes his debut with the Orchestra. LSO Leader Andrej Power also makes a debut, performing alongside his colleagues as soloist for the first time.
This performance will end at approximately 9pm, including a 20-minute interval (timings subject to change).

Mobility
Spaces for wheelchair users in row U at the rear of the stalls (up to sixteen, depth of row 180cm) and the back row of the circle (four), both with fold-down companion seats. Some seats in row S of the stalls for people with very limited mobility.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs may be taken into the concert hall where there are a limited number of suitable seats in row G of the stalls. If you prefer, you may leave your dog with a member of the cloakroom staff during the performance.
Hearing facility
There is an induction loop in the concert hall. You can use this by adjusting your hearing aid to the ‘T’ setting.
