WORKSHOP: Paper play & kite-making
Artist educator Neysela Da Silva-Reed will facilitate a workshop making classic children's toys inspired by the artist Francis Alÿs. In his series Children's Games we see examples of play which explore movement and the world around us using objects that are immediately at hand. This drop in session will explore different types of paper play.
Neysela da Silva-Reed is a gallery and arts educator. Her practice centres around developing and facilitating meaningful visitor experiences. Using gallery teaching strategies and engagement tools, Neysela aims to enhance visitor interactions with art objects.
WORKSHOP: Playful mark-making
The workshops use the Francis Alÿs exhibition as a starting point in which to collaboratively engage with artworks with a childlike curiosity, and an open-minded exploration of your senses. Art becomes play and play changes the way we exist in the world. Using movement, ‘drawing’ and storytelling to enquire into the power of Art in everyday life, the workshops will encourage you to challenge your role of ‘viewer’, in order to look differently, hear more, and feel further.
Lucy Pook is an Art teacher practitioner, with experience of working with young people from Early Years to Post A level, in both a mainstream and special educational needs setting. She believes in the power of Art to transform lives, and give children a greater sense of autonomy, whilst allowing for enhanced communication with the world around them. She encourages students to pay attention to the details, explore contexts and listen to the voices of others, in order to make sense of their own identities. Art enables conversation; and conversation informs art.
WORKSHOP: Family gameplay
Go head-to-head—literally—in our intergenerational obstacle course! This makes the three-legged race look like a walk in the park. Inspired by the work of Francis Alÿs, comic art duo Hunt & Darton challenge you to partner up in the spirit of true collaboration. Race to the finish line while supporting various objects between you and your partner. No oranges were harmed in the making of this artwork. Races are run every hour; please just assemble to take part. Cheering is highly recommended!
Hunt & Darton have been creating entertaining art experiences for the high street for nearly two decades, including their much-loved H&D Cafe, Radio Local, and Kids Business.
